The Song of Whales and Sea

The inspiration for this design comes from the sensations of wandering among various curves and the unpredictable achromatic colors. The reception counter, adorned with golden accents, is particularly captivating. The arches throughout the space figuratively embody the waving sea, moving with specific rhythms, much like a fascinating whale in the ocean.

What sets this restaurant design apart is its seamless integration with the surrounding environment. The building's exterior, with its sleek white form, symbolizes purity and liveliness, resembling a tame whale sitting in the city. Natural light filters through the clear glass and smooth curves, creating an atmosphere that exposes the natural aura of the space. The outdoor landscape, complete with a pool and lush plants, envelops the L-shaped building, creating a city oasis.

Inside, the dining booths offer a great view of the outdoor landscapes, thanks to the extensive use of clear glass. The interior space includes a reception counter, dining booths, staff rest area, and kitchen. The layout ensures smooth traffic flow, with the dining booths spreading outwards from the L-shaped corner kitchen.

The interior decoration further enhances the overall design concept. The sleek style, consistent with the building exterior, features elegant curves that encompass rounded corners, woodworks, curved ceilings, and streamlined booth seats. Golden lighting fixtures imaginatively resemble the whale's blowing bubbles floating upward, while laser-engraved screens symbolize swaying seaweeds.

The Song of Whales and Sea restaurant, located in Taichung, Taiwan, was completed on January 1, 2019. With its unique design and seamless integration of nature and modernity, it offers a lustrous, comfortable, and distinctive dining environment.

This exceptional design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. The award recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
